Xueli Abbing’s story begins in difficult circumstances, marked by abandonment and uncertainty. She was born in China with albinism, a rare genetic condition that affects skin, hair, and vision. Due to cultural stigma surrounding physical differences, she was left outside an orphanage without a name or recorded birth date.
The orphanage staff gave her the name Xueli, meaning “snow” and “beautiful,” reflecting both her appearance and the hope for her future. Despite this, her early life lacked stability, identity, and family connection.

At the age of three, her life changed when she was adopted by a Dutch family and moved to the Netherlands. In this new environment, she was raised with acceptance and encouragement. Her family embraced her uniqueness and helped her see her condition not as a limitation, but as part of who she is.
As she grew older, her distinctive appearance drew attention in creative industries. At eleven, she was invited to participate in a fashion campaign focused on celebrating diversity and redefining beauty standards. This opportunity became the starting point of her modeling career.

Xueli’s presence in fashion challenged traditional ideas of beauty and brought visibility to people with albinism, who are often overlooked or misrepresented. Her appearance in Vogue Italia in 2019 marked a significant moment, highlighting the importance of inclusion in the industry.
Today, Xueli uses her platform not only for modeling but also to raise awareness about albinism and the discrimination many still face worldwide. She speaks out against harmful stereotypes and promotes understanding, acceptance, and respect.
Her journey reflects resilience and transformation — from a vulnerable beginning to becoming a symbol of inclusion and strength. Xueli’s story shows how acceptance, opportunity, and determination can reshape a life and challenge societal perceptions.
