I was so taken aback by my sister’s explanation for not letting my daughter go to the pool that I took my daughter and left.
We were going to have a family day at my sister’s house this weekend. Lily, my daughter, is an avid swimmer, and at the start of the week, she had already gotten her swimsuit ready and was looking forward to spending the weekend in the pool with her cousins.
All of the kids were in the water when we got to my sister’s place. A few minutes after I urged Lily to change so she could join them, I noticed her beside the pool, looking distressed as she observed the other children enjoying themselves.
Since Lily enjoys being in the water, I found it intriguing that she wasn’t swimming.
“What’s wrong, honey?” I asked her as I walked up to her. Why do you not get into the water?
With tears in her eyes, she answered, “Aunt Susan won’t let me swim.” I can’t, but everyone else can.”
In order to comprehend what was happening, I took a deep breath and went to see my sister. I was shocked by her remark.
I took my daughter right away, and we headed out.
I asked my sister what was going on when I visited her.
Her response, “I wanted to avoid too much disturbance,” made me shiver. Lily splatters. My kids are accustomed to a certain level of quiet.
I was shocked by what I heard. “You mean that because my daughter would disturb the order, she is not welcome?”
“It’s my house, my rules,” she insisted. It isn’t personal.
I decided right away. “Lily, go fetch your belongings. We’re heading home.
“I won’t talk to you until you show some respect for others,” I wrote to my sister later.
She didn’t answer.
