The day her twin girls, ages ten, disappeared without a trace, her life fell apart.
She had just dispatched them to the local grocery for milk and bread, something they had done dozens of times before, when it happened on a soggy June evening in 2002. However, the females never returned.
All night long, the mother looked for them. Then, for a whole month, the entire city—police, neighbors, volunteers, and search dogs—joined the hunt. However, it appeared as though the twins had been wiped out. No hints. Nothing to wear. Not a witness. Just pain and quiet.
Years went by. Hope diminished with each passing day, but the woman never gave up. She reviewed every report concerning missing or found children, wrote to newspapers, and made websites.
She even made a pointless trip overseas.
She was browsing through short movies on the internet one restless night when she abruptly froze in shock at what she saw… 
On the TV were two young women who were laughing and discussing their lives and trips. They had striking similarities in appearance.

The location tag for the video indicated a small South American village. The mother bought a flying ticket without thinking twice.
Time seemed to halt when she finally got there and saw them. Two mature women who are total strangers despite their beauty and self-assurance. They gave her a wary, unrecognized gaze.
Her hands shaking, she took out an old picture of two ten-year-old girls and muttered, “This can’t be.”
One of the young ladies paled as they exchanged glances.
They were later sold to a childless couple who reared them under false pretenses after they had been abducted. No one ever looked for them because all evidence had disappeared, erasing their past.
They couldn’t recall their true identities. However, everything seemed to fall apart when their mother showed them the picture, the necklaces, and the tiny scar on one girl’s knee.
