Ramon, a man who knows the early morning rhythm of the road, stepped onto the Britain’s Got Talent (BGT) stage carrying the wonderfully contradictory title of “The Singing Binman.” Originally from Barbados but now working the collection routes of Great Yarmouth, Ramon’s big dream was to swap his high-vis jacket for the spotlight and become a full-time entertainer. He set the scene perfectly by explaining that his day job was a necessity, but his singing was a passion that brought joy to everyone on his route, ready to prove that a star can absolutely emerge from the most humble and unlikely of places.
Instead of a traditional audition, Ramon delivered an absolute surprise: a self-penned, full-blown dancehall bop about his daily life called “I’m a Binman.” This track was an instant injection of energy, combining Caribbean rhythm with the unexpected theme of refuse collection. Ramon’s performance was delivered with such infectious charisma, natural swagger, and a genuinely catchy tune that the atmosphere in the studio completely transformed. The song was fun, unique, and so irresistibly grooving that soon, the entire arena was swaying and tapping their feet to the rhythm of his daily route.
The judges were instantly won over by Ramon’s natural group and charm. Alesha Dixon loved the fun of the audition, while Bruno Tonioli praised his undeniable charisma.
Recognizing the commercial potential in the quirky, feel-good track, Simon Cowell gave it the highest praise, calling it a “great little song” that he believed could easily become a genuine “summer hit.” Ramon didn’t just pass the audition; he gave the judges a fully realized, unique persona and an unforgettable performance, securing a unanimous set of four “yeses” to take his unique brand of bin-boogie to the next round.
