Mama Duke, a singer-songwriter from Austin, Texas, took the America’s Got Talent stage to pursue a dream she had put off for too long. Despite having a passion for music, Mama Duke sustained herself through various temporary jobs, including working as a barista, a photographer, and most recently, an employee at the YMCA, where she spent her time playing Uno with children. She revealed that she was a “late bloomer” and saw the audition as her final opportunity to prove to herself that “it’s time” to make her musical dreams a reality, admitting she wanted success “more than anything.”
For her debut, Mama Duke performed an original rap song she wrote herself titled “Feels So Good To Be You.” The track was an energetic rap fusion with throwbacks that showcased her impressive talent and unshakeable swagger. Mama Duke not only delivered a captivating vocal performance but also used live instruments, demonstrating a professionalism that impressed the panel. The audience was instantly won over by the catchy, confident anthem, rising to their feet and dancing along to the rhythm.
The judges were clearly impressed by the complete package she presented. Mel B immediately called the song “already a hit,” praising her confidence and swagger. Simon Cowell noted her smart preparation and highlighted her great personality and writing skills, declaring, “We haven’t heard anyone like you this year.” Recognizing her unique talent and powerful performance, Mama Duke easily secured a unanimous four “yeses,” proving she was ready to move far beyond her day jobs and fully embrace her musical career.
